California State Polytechnic University Pomona invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938 Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive relevant and values diverse perspectives and experiences. College of Engineering. Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department at Cal Poly Pomona has two undergraduate programs Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering as well as two masters programs Engineering Management and Systems Engineering. The IME department is among a few departments in the state of California that offer a Manufacturing Engineering program. Its strategic location makes it possible to collaborate with various industries in the region. During the last decade the department has grown from about two hundred students to more than six hundred. Our students and faculty come from a diverse set of backgrounds. Currently the department has nine tenured/tenure-track faculty members and about twenty lecturers who cumulatively teach an average of a hundred sections of our courses per semester. Committed to the PolyX experience the Department provides students with access to several laboratories designed for instruction of Industrial and Manufacturing courses. Among those are machining and automation laboratories. The IME department is student-focused and strives to build a safe environment for faculty staff and students so that they can communicate productively and build healthy relationships. The department also aims to develop and benefit from strong industry relationships. Position description. The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department at California State Polytechnic University Pomona invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2027. We seek candidates with expertise in Human-System Integration (including Virtual Augmented and Mixed Reality) Human Factors and Ergonomics Intelligent Systems and Decision successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of industrial engineering courses (e.g. Human Factors Engineering Operations Research Facility Planning Lean Manufacturing) develop new courses in human systems integration and establish a strong externally funded research program in their area(s) of expertise.

A Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering Systems Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university by the date of appointment is required. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence and student success as well as strong oral and written communication skills.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate expertise in human systems integration or in the application of Operations Research and computational methods to novel problems in this area.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering Manufacturing Engineering or a closely aligned field. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  1. Academic experience and strength in Human-System Integration (including Virtual Augmented and Mixed Reality) Human Factors and Ergonomics Intelligent Systems and Decision Sciences.
  2. Industrial experience in the Human-System Integration areas that will enhance teaching and research
  3. Demonstrated ability in university teaching mentoring and supervising students and/or improving industrial and manufacturing engineering curricula
  4. Demonstrated ability for authoring peer-reviewed publications and/or securing external funds
  5. Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills.
