Purpose

Industrial Machine Repairpersons 5 perform preventativemaintenance on and repairs to Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) equipment andfacilities operate snow and ice control equipment and perform routine dutiesat outlying booster stations.

Essential Functions

Facilities and Machine Repair

  • Use machine tools to fabricate and modify shelves brackets guards bushings and safety equipment.
  • Inspect adjust and replace gland packing and set to acceptable operational leakage specifications.
  • Perform repairs to centrifugal pumps chemical pumps and feed systems engines gear cases drive lines threaded pipes and fittings building appurtenances storage facilities booster station equipment and various other industrial equipment.
  • Perform SMAW GMAW gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and oxy-acetylene welding to repair facilities and equipment.
  • Upgrade and or install new sample lines near instrumentation points and pipe of all diameters.
  • Install flow meters and water quality analysis equipment.
  • Inspect repair and replace valves of all types and sizes.
  • Replace gland packing and set to acceptable operational leakage specifications.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues with pumps larger than 50HP.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Install and remove water fountain pumps and associated piping perform daily chemical tests and perform cleaning of fountains and the surrounding area.
  • Prime pumps and perform oil changes.
  • Perform preventative greasing of equipment with the proper grease type.
  • Obtain and process oil samples for pumps reviewing test results for potential issues.
  • Inspect repair and perform preventative maintenance on industrial equipment such as coagulators flocculators access hatches centrifugal pumps fence operators and air compressors.

Crew Leadership

  • Develop a scope of work identify resources needed establish a work schedule/timeline and provide daily progress reports for special projects.
  • Lead crews to set up and break down fountains obtain vibration and runout readings on equipment and clean and repair ozone contactors.
  • Perform Confined Space Attendant duties using multi-gas detection meters and radios.
  • Propose new and alternative solutions based on current technology available.
  • Develop lifecycle reports on various assets and use the CMMS to compile information and determine trending conditions.
  • Train Industrial Machine Repair Mechanics and collaborate with Steamfitters Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Steamfitters Automation staff Electrical & Instrumentation staff and Plant Operations staff on preventative correct and demand maintenance activities.

Conditions of Employment

Industrial Machine Repairpersons mustbe able to:

  • Perform duties related to custodial work and snow removal.
  • Climb ladders enter confined spaces and wear confined space safety equipment.
  • Lift and handle at least 50 pounds of equipment or material and more weight with assistance.
  • Work at heights up to 100 feet in confined spaces in proximity to hazardous chemicals in all weather conditions and with high noise levels.
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment including safety shoes glasses and hearing protection.
  • Work mandatory overtime and respond to emergency call-outs when needed.
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Possess good manual dexterity.

The pre-employment medical requirements for this positioninclude:

Minimum Requirements

  1. Associate degree in manufacturing construction transportation or related trade from an accredited college university or trade school.
  2. Three years of experience performing industrial machine repair maintenance adjustment and installation two of which must include GMAW GTAW SMAW or oxy-acetylene welding service of pumps larger than 50HP leading repair crews on special projects providing training and other duties closely related to this position.
  3. Valid drivers license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  4. Forklift and Skid Steer Loader Operator certification within the probationary period and throughout employment.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Journey-level Machine Repairperson certification.

Knowledge Skills Abilities & Other Characteristics

Technical

  • Ability to perform precision repairs on industrial equipment.
  • Skill in using lathes vertical mills surface grinders and machine tools standard to the trade.
  • Skill using a torch and plasma cutter.
  • Ability to understand and determine chemical compatibility with repairs the proper selection of solvent cement on PVC/CPVC and the proper selection of materials when working with dissimilar metals.
  • Ability to conduct basic grab sampling procedures to monitor equipment
  • Ability to investigate new methods and tooling to apply torque methods across all facilities properly.
  • Ability to inspect troubleshoot and repair large pumps and associated apparatus (valves solenoids etc.)
  • Ability to develop reports on assets and equipment.
  • High degree of mechanical aptitude and skill in machine repair.
  • Skill in using drill presses bench grinders and hand and power tools standard to the trade.
  • Ability to understand water treatment plant chemical feed systems piping and appurtenances.
  • Ability to understand the preventative maintenance processes for industrial pumps.
  • Ability to use the correct methods to apply torque according to specifications.
  • Ability to operate a truck and a 30 trailer to transport equipment and materials.
  • Ability to operate a forklift to move and store materials.
  • Ability to operate equipment and install/remove vehicle attachments for snow and ice control.
  • Ability to read diagnose and troubleshoot from service/technical manuals blueprints plans specifications and other work-related documents.
  • Ability to utilize applicable computer hardware and software such as the CMMS programs.

  • Ability to lead teams on projects and other maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to ensuring consistency and accuracy in the work of others.
  • Ability to coordinate staff assign duties and monitor work in progress.
  • Ability to reason through multifaceted situations and solve complex problems.

Current Salary

The current salary range (PG 7MN) is$100246-$138405annuallyand the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis$104255-$143941annually.Appointment above theminimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications andis subject to approval.
