Implant Software Staff Engineer

The Implant Software Staff Engineer designs and develops embedded real-time software for innovative cardiac implantable medical devices operating under extreme power memory and performance constraints. This role applies deep technical expertise across the software lifecycle within a highly regulated environment requiring disciplined engineering practices and strong written communication. The position demands broad and advanced software development experience and may include technical leadership design ownership and cross-functional leadership.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of the software development process including requirements definition analysis and design implementation and debugging peer reviews unit testing developer verification and development of accurate personal schedules within the broader team schedule.
  • Help determine technical approaches to assignments using best practices.
  • Generate and maintain software documentation required for the project according to the Companys policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with ASIC external device software systems engineering and clinical teams.
  • Owns key embedded software components and interface with external applications.
  • Contribute to completion of project milestones.
  • Solve diverse and complex problems within the context of existing architecture.
  • Follow process and foster a culture of continuous process improvement.
  • May serve as project lead on small-scale projects.
  • May provide technical mentoring and coaching to lower-level software engineers.
  • Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the manager.

Your Profile

Education / Experience Requirements

  • Understanding of 8-bit microprocessor/microcontroller architecture and demonstrated ability to design implement and debug code in that environment.
  • Strong experience in C and assembly.
  • Experience working with configuration management and defect tracking tools.
  • BS/MS Degree in engineering in the field of Computer Science Computer Engineering Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years graduate-level coursework and/or experience in embedded software development.
  • At least 1 year experience in medical device or similarly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrable success in driving one or more strategic features to completion.

Additional Preferred Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Software development for very low power low memory applications
  • Proficiency with bare metal or RTOS environments
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principals for embedded systems
  • Software development for FDA Class III implantable medical devices
  • Object oriented design concepts
  • Strong team skills

Travel Requirements
Must be able to travel internationally and domestically less than 5% of the time.

Work Environment

Engineer work environment: If onsite this role is based in a temperature controlled professional office setting which may include an office or cubicle with quiet to moderate noise level. If remote the work environment is the employees residence. Work may need to be completed on campus in a lab. The noise level in the lab is quiet to moderate.
