Job Summary:
The Operating Room (OR) Technician supports surgical teams by preparing patients and operating rooms for procedures assisting surgeons during operations and maintaining sterile environments. This role involves instrument handling patient positioning and ensuring efficient room turnover. The OR Technician must be skilled in technical procedures sterile technique and inventory management to facilitate smooth surgical operations.
Responsibilities:- Assist in transportation and positioning of patients for surgical procedures.
- Assemble and dismantle tables and surgical instruments before and after procedures.
- Prepare patients and operating rooms for planned surgical procedures.
- Open sterile supplies and set up equipment for surgeries.
- Complete skin preparation and draping of patients.
- Assist surgeons with gowning gloving and passing instruments and sutures.
- Maintain accurate counts of instruments sutures and sponges during procedures.
- Apply dressings and bandages as required post-procedure.
- Identify collect and care for surgical specimens.
- Decontaminate instruments supplies and equipment following established protocols.
- Handle and store instruments and supplies appropriately.
- Facilitate efficient turnover of the operating room between cases.
- Monitor and restock surgical supplies to maintain readiness.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA or equivalent on-the-job or military training with documented evidence.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Technical experience of at least 6 months or specialized training for non-certified candidates.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA or NCCT.
- Military experience as a technician or LPN dental assistant ophthalmologist technician or medical assistant.
- Must be available for call one weeknight and two weekend days per month.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment requiring strict adherence to sterile techniques and protocols.
- Physical ability to assist with patient transport and positioning.
- Day shift: 0800 to 1830 4 days per week with rotating days off throughout the week.
- Includes call responsibilities as outlined in special considerations.
