ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The Helix School is a Cognia-accredited nonpublic school (NPS) specializing in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodivergent profiles serving students from kindergarten through age 22 across the San Francisco Bay Area. Guided by the mission to guide autistic children to lead fulfilling and connected lives The Helix School has grown from two students at its founding in 2014 to a thriving learning community of over 60 students the majority of whom are funded by their local public school districts. Partnering with families and districts across the Bay Area the School navigates the full complexity of the NPS landscape including IEPs district contracts and the regulatory framework that governs publicly funded special education placements.

What makes The Helix School distinctive is its interdisciplinary model: clinical services including occupational therapy and speech-language pathology are embedded directly alongside teaching faculty creating an integrated team that works in concert around each student. The integrated curriculum is tailored to each students developmental level sensory processing differences and emotional-regulatory needs with an emphasis on motivation kinesthetic and sensory-based learning. The Helix School partners with families and school districts to deliver educational programming that is responsive relationship-driven and rooted in the belief that every learner deserves a path forward.

PURPOSE

The Helix School exists to create a learning environment where autistic and neurodivergent students are known valued and challenged to grow. Through individualized instruction evidence-based practices and a whole-child approach The Helix School cultivates academic progress social-emotional development and the confidence students need to build meaningful self-directed lives. The Schools work is guided by care high expectations and an unwavering commitment to each students potential.

IEP Management & Compliance

• Serve as the primary case manager for students at Helix
• Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings annual reviews and triennial evaluations.
• Ensure IEPs are compliant with IDEA state regulations and district policies.
• Maintain accurate and timely special education records and documentation.
• Monitor timelines for evaluations eligibility determinations and IEP reviews.

Student Support

• Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and objectives in collaboration with the Clinical and Academic Directors.
• Collaborate with teachers and service providers to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented.
• Advocate for student needs and appropriate educational supports.

Collaboration & Communication

• Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding IEP services and supports.
• Communicate regularly with parents teachers therapists counselors and administrators.
• Facilitate collaboration among general education and special education staff.
• Support transitions between grade levels schools and post-secondary settings when appropriate.

Program Coordination

• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and problem-solving processes.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
• Stay current on special education laws regulations and best practices.
• Participate in professional development and required training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Special Education Education School Psychology Social Work or related field (Masters degree preferred).
• Valid state teaching credential special education credential or appropriate licensure as required.
• Knowledge of IDEA Section 504 FERPA and state special education regulations.
• Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience managing multiple deadlines and maintaining detailed records.
• Proficiency with special education software and student information systems.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Strong understanding of special education processes and compliance requirements.
• Ability to analyze educational data and develop appropriate recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students families and staff.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.

Working Conditions

• School-based environment with frequent interaction with students families and staff.
• Regular attendance at meetings including occasional before- or after-school meetings.
