As an I-BEST Transitional Studies faculty member youll team teach alongside professional-technical faculty while providing hands-on academic support mentorship and connections to resources that help students overcome barriers and achieve their goals. Salary: For fall quarter (September 22-December 11) this assignment provides a 121-hour contract at a $72.89 hourly rate. This position is grant-funded and has the possibility of continuing through the academic year. HVAC-R classes are scheduled Monday-Thursday. While I-BEST assignments are flexible work hours will generally occur during these days and around morning class hours with some afternoons being needed.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Team teach HVAC-R courses as Transitional Studies faculty with a focus on literacy basic math and study skills alongside subject-matter professional-technical expert and program lead
  • Serve as point of contact for I-BEST program students when they need referrals to resources or encounter barriers
  • Assist I-BEST students with elements of college preparedness including study skills technology skills time management academic tutoring barrier identification and problem solving
  • Assist the HVAC-R program with implementing and coordinating coursework and student support
  • Collaborate with instructors in HVAC-R and Transitional Studies to develop integrative lessons and assignments;
  • Consult with other college faculty and staff on issues relevant to student success and retention
  • Work with Transitional Studies Dean and program staff to ensure required data collection and compliance
  • Work with students faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Participate in departmental meetings and activities
  • Contribute to college-wide goals and activities
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Bellingham Technical Colleges Mission
  • Other related duties as assigned and required

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completed a bachelors degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience working with adult learners in a developmental context
  • Prior to final hire a pre-employment background including criminal history and signed declaration statement as it pertains to sexual misconduct per Washington State Law (RCW 28B.112.080) will be conducted. Employment is contingent on passing the background check and signed declaration per RCW 28b.112.080 satisfactory to the college. Information from the background check and declaration will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicants suitability and competence to perform in the position. This position has access to children under the age of 18 as part of the State of Washington Running Start Program
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of teaching experience; college preferred
  • Experience or interest in working closely with instructors from various technical fields
  • Demonstrated experience with designing training organizing instructional content or using technology to support learning

Supplemental Information

Compensation Work Schedule and Benefits: For fall quarter (September 22-December 11) this assignment provides a 121-hour contract at a $72.89 hourly rate.


The work schedule will vary based on student and college needs. Some evening hours are expected.This is not a remote position. On campus teaching and presence are required.

Benefits:


This position will receive prorated leave based on the BEA CBA. The following benefits are in accordance with the Bellingham Education Association (BEA) and subject to change with each negotiated contact. Current BEA contract expires June 30 2028.

  • Paid sick leave. Sick leave is accrued based on their contracted FTEF multiplied by 7.5 hour for each month in active teaching status.
  • If eligible a 5% per hour more above the teaching rate doctoral stipend if teaching a five credit or more course (not paid on contract training community or continuing ed courses);
  • A 5% Longevity premium rate after teaching 1375 hours at BTC
