Job Summary:
The HVAC/Mechanical Worker will perform the maintenance repair and upkeep of heating and air conditioning equipment electrical and plumbing operations and chemical treatment of water used throughout campus.
Essential Functions:
- Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia Colleges vision mission and values and contributes to the development of the Plant and Facilities Department
- Practice superior customer service.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
- Attend work timely and on a regular basis during the established hours of operation; work additional hours as business necessitates.
- Assist in the installation maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning equipment.
- Assist in the installation maintenance and repair of electrical and plumbing systems.
- Assist in the maintenance of industrial water softeners.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC/Mechanical equipment.
- On alternating basis with mechanical shop personnel will be on-call every other week.
- Assist with snow removal.
Required Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
- Ability to fluently read write and understand the English language.
- Proficiency with the following but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
- Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
- Proficiency in using web-based technologies including database systems.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment with or without direct supervision.
- Excellent communication interpersonal customer service and organizational skills.
- Experience in installation and maintenance of heating and air conditioning equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and operations.
- Knowledge of plumbing systems and operations.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of boilers.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Ability to work on-call.
- EPA certification-Environmental Protection Agency licensure in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Preferred Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
- Knowledge in maintenance of industrial water softeners.
- License in plumbing and/or electrical systems.
- Technical school training
Required Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred Level of Education: Technical School in HVAC Refrigeration Plumbing & Electrical or similar
Special Requirements (if any):
- Valid Missouri E drivers license or ability to attain one.
- Must meet and maintain requirements as an approved driver for Columbia College.
- Ability to move and lift minimum 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely exposed to outside weather conditions; however possible exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety may occur while operating certain equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.
