Qualifications:

Knowledge of meat industry is preferred
Basic math skills
Good people skills
Self-motivated - work well without direct supervision
Must be able to work with live hogs follow and enforce humane handling guidelines.
Ability to follow instructions
High School degree or GED required
Associates or Bachelors Degree in applicable field preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Verify that all humane handling SOPs are being carried out including scheduling unloading training and handling of non-ambulatory animals.
Including hands on helping with difficult hogs both in the truck and the drive alleys.
Monitor/assist in slow hog movement & correct SOP coverage.
These activities periodically (as time allows) will be monitored audits may be performed as needed and document deficiencies.
Maintain good communication with USDA/FSIS in matters related to humane handling.
Ensure that animals are being properly transported by monitoring equipment and seasonal preparation.
Assist in response to emergency situations.
Maintain implementation of the four elements of the Systematic Approach during each shift.
Participate on facility Animal Welfare Team.
Performs various other duties as determined by the Livestock Handling Manager.
Attend scheduled and called meetings.
Observe and assist transporters to verify that company procedures and USDA rules and regulations are being followed with respect to receiving and unloading hogs.
