Qualifications:
- Knowledge of meat industry is preferred
- Basic math skills
- Good people skills
- Self-motivated - work well without direct supervision
- Must be able to work with live hogs follow and enforce humane handling guidelines.
- Ability to follow instructions
- High School degree or GED required
- Associates or Bachelors Degree in applicable field preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Verify that all humane handling SOPs are being carried out including scheduling unloading training and handling of non-ambulatory animals.
- Including hands on helping with difficult hogs both in the truck and the drive alleys.
- Monitor/assist in slow hog movement & correct SOP coverage.
- These activities periodically (as time allows) will be monitored audits may be performed as needed and document deficiencies.
- Maintain good communication with USDA/FSIS in matters related to humane handling.
- Ensure that animals are being properly transported by monitoring equipment and seasonal preparation.
- Assist in response to emergency situations.
- Maintain implementation of the four elements of the Systematic Approach during each shift.
- Participate on facility Animal Welfare Team.
- Performs various other duties as determined by the Livestock Handling Manager.
- Attend scheduled and called meetings.
- Observe and assist transporters to verify that company procedures and USDA rules and regulations are being followed with respect to receiving and unloading hogs.
