Human Resources Manager

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and proactive HR Manager to fill a temporary-to-hire position for our client located in the Sunnyvale area to oversee all aspects of human resources including recruitment compliance HR systems payroll coordination and employee support. This role will play a key part in modernizing HR processes implementing systems and ensuring compliance with labor laws.
This is an opportunity to build and shape the HR function within a growing nonprofit organization.
Key Responsibilities: Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead full-cycle recruitment (sourcing screening interviewing onboarding)
- Fill multiple open positions across the organization
- Maintain personnel files and employee records
- Improve onboarding processes including digitizing forms and workflows
HR Systems & Payroll
- Manage and optimize HRIS (Paylocity) implementation and ongoing use
- Oversee biweekly payroll processing in partnership with Paylocity
- Ensure accuracy of payroll tax filings (W-2s 1099s 941s) and year-end processes
- Support HRIS enhancements and reporting
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure compliance with:
- Cal/OSHA
- EEO laws
- Federal state and local labor laws
- Maintain HR records policies and audit readiness
Policies & Procedures
- Update and maintain Employee Handbook
- Incorporate new policies and board-approved updates
- Ensure policies align with current labor laws and best practices
Employee Support & Benefits
- Serve as a point of contact for employee HR questions
- Support open enrollment and benefits administration (EASE platform)
- Assist with 403(b) and payroll-related inquiries
- Provide guidance on HR policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of HR experience preferably in a nonprofit environment
- Strong experience with HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred)
- Knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance
- Experience managing payroll processes
- Excellent organizational communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and build systems from the ground up
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing HRIS systems
- Background in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- HR certification (PHR SPHR SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP)
