We are in search of a Human Resources Manager for a Nonprofit Legal Aid organization located in Chicago IL (In the Loop). This is a Direct Hire Full-Time Hybrid role.

POSITION TITLE: Human Resources Manager
SCHEDULE: Full Time; Hybrid (to be discussed after hiring)
SALARY: $85000 - 100000/yr. DOE
Is This Your Dream Job The Human Resources Manager will serve as the primary HR leader responsible for overseeing employee lifecycle processes strengthening compliance and employee relations and implementing programs that support performance development and long-term workforce planning. The ideal candidate brings strong union experience a proactive approach to building HR systems and a passion for supporting staff in a fast-paced nonprofit environment focused on housing justice. This role may have supervisory responsibilities.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- 5 years of HR experience preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Bachelors degree in human resources Business Administration or related field preferred
- Experience in HR policies employee relations performance management and HR operations
- Union experience required; National Organization of Legal Services Workers experience preferred
- Experience in legal aid or legal services preferred
- Experience leading new hire onboarding and manager training
- Knowledge of employment law and HR compliance
- Ability to work in a fast-paced evolving environment with competing priorities
How You Will Spend Your Day:
HR Strategic & Organizational Support
- Partner with leadership to align HR practices with organizational goals
- Support workforce planning organizational structure and growth initiatives
- Build scalable HR processes and infrastructure
Union and Employee Relations
- Support day-to-day union-related matters and CBA adherence
- Guide leadership on employee relations risks and policy decisions
- Prepare for labor negotiations
Manager Training & Development
- Design and deliver manager training programs
- Lead performance management processes (goal setting reviews feedback)
- Coach managers on employee development and best practices
Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as a trusted resource for employee concerns and conflict resolution
- Promote consistency fairness and transparency across teams
- Performance Management & Succession Planning
- Lead performance management processes including goal setting and reviews
- Support ongoing feedback and accountability across teams
- Develop and implement succession planning strategies
HR Operations & Compliance
- Oversee onboarding offboarding and employee record management
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and nonprofit requirements
- Maintain HR policies procedures and documentation
- Partner with external vendors including payroll and benefits providers
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce manual work
- Implement tools and standardized procedures to support growth
