Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Human Resources Associate. Under the general supervision of the Personnel Officer the successful candidate performs complex highly sensitive and confidential payroll and personnel transaction activities for the District.

Essential Functions
  • Prepares and completes all personnel transactions and classification actions for both full- time and temporary personnel assigned to the district including disability military educational and general leaves.
  • Performs a wide variety of complex administrative duties for payroll submissions.
  • Processes all health and life insurance transactions.
  • Composes and prepares correspondence for signature response to written and oral inquiries or requests concerning personnel policies or procedures.
  • Posts all vacation sick leave personal days 100 time jury duty military and general leaves from leave requests and/or semi-monthly reports for all personnel in district.
  • Processes all state employee retirement system forms for both active and interactive personnel including beneficiary occupational and non-occupational disabilities.
  • Provides information and answers questions concerning pay insurance available time off retirement system state testing etc. to employees and the public on a walk-in basis or by telephone.
  • Maintains all active and inactive personnel records reports and section activities.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerate above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of college or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
  • Requires ability to accurately keyboard at 30 wpm.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers working knowledge of human resources programs rules and regulations.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of the principles of office management.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of manual and automated office equipment.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of arithmetic computations.
