The Opportunity:
Providing solutions in an efficient and customer-focused model Human Resource Services (HRS) strives to enhance the employment experience and satisfaction of Washington State University (WSU) faculty and staff through clear communication outreach engagement and support. Enhancing workplace satisfaction and sustainability of the University fostering a positive and engaging experience to the WSU system.
As a Human Resource Consultant within HRS Employment Services team you will provide comprehensive human resource (HR) advice and counsel to leadership management faculty and staff on a wide range of employment practices procedures and policies. You will serve assigned areas within WSU utilizing your knowledge of laws policies regulations and procedures to support HR employee relations. You will work closely with assigned leadership and management to foster a collaborative and productive workplace through open communication and promoting best practices in areas of:
Providing advice and guidance to managers regarding employee relations concerns including managing corrective and disciplinary actions and conducting personnel investigations;
Resolving performance challenges and addressing workplace concerns;
Supporting training and development efforts and guiding performance management;
Advising on recruitment classification and compensation matters;
Contributing to program or policy development and organizational analysis; and
Other matters related to human resource management.
This position is based on the WSU Pullman campus in Pullman Washington. After completing an initial training period the selected applicant may be eligible to work from the WSU Spokane campus up to two days per week reporting to the Pullman campus the rest of the week.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE) permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement.
Monthly Salary:
HR Consultant 1 (HRC1): $5250 - $6750 Commensurate with education and experience.
HR Consultant 2 (HRC2): $6250 - $8000 Commensurate with education and experience.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
HR Consultant 1:
Bachelors degree in business human resources or related area and three (3) years of professional human resource experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
HR Consultant 2:
Bachelors degree in business human resources or related area and four (4) years of professional experience as a human resource generalist. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
For All Applicants:
Experience handling complex employee relations issues including conflict resolution conducting investigations and reporting findings corrective and disciplinary actions and compliance with labor laws.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience interpreting explaining and applying state and federal laws rules policies and procedures including labor laws collective bargaining agreements and contracts.
Experience interacting with large groups and individuals at all work levels.
Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in any of the following areas: labor relations recruitment classification compensation Fair Labor Standards Act.
Professional certification from a recognized human resource/personnel association.
Human Resource experience in a higher education setting.
