JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Provide daily care for laboratory rabbits used to support a tick-rearing program. Responsibilities include handling grooming monitoring and maintaining accurate animal-care records. Observe rabbits for changes in health behavior or well-being and promptly report concerns to supervisory or veterinary staff.
- Clean disinfect and sanitize animal rooms cages equipment and related work areas according to established laboratory animal-care and biosafety procedures. Assist with rabbit restraint routine treatments sample collection and other animal procedures under appropriate supervision.
- Handle contain and transfer ticks associated with scheduled rabbit infestations and collections. Maintain careful separation of tick species and life stages prevent escapes or cross-contamination and follow established tick-handling personal protective equipment and containment procedures.
- Receive and store feed bedding cages laboratory supplies and animal-care materials; maintain inventory sanitation census and procedural records. Assist with waste disposal and other facility operations in accordance with institutional state and federal requirements.
