The Role
The HR Generalist provides hands-on Human Resources support to field and corporate employees across multiple construction sites and office locations. This role supports day-to-day HR activities throughout the employee lifecycle including employee relations compliance HR documentation benefits and leave support policy interpretation and workforce administration. The ideal candidate brings strong field-based or construction industry experience a service-oriented approach and the ability to build trusted relationships with employees supervisors and project leaders. This position reports to the Senior Human Resources Business Partner and travels regularly approximately 20% to construction sites and field locations.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Workforce Support
- Serve as the primary HR contact for field employees supervisors and project managers.
- Provide guidance and resolution on employee relations issues performance concerns disciplinary actions and workplace investigations.
- Conduct regular job site visits to maintain visibility build relationships and assess workforce needs.
- Promote a positive employee experience and foster employee engagement across field operations.
HR Generalist Support
- Support managers and employees with day-to-day HR questions employee transactions and policy interpretation.
- Provide practical guidance to supervisors on attendance performance concerns documentation conflict resolution and corrective action processes.
- Partner with HR leadership to execute HR programs processes and initiatives consistently across field and corporate teams.
Recruiting Coordination & Onboarding
- Support recruiting coordination for field and skilled trade positions in partnership with Talent Acquisition and hiring managers.
- Assist with pre-employment activities onboarding documentation new hire communications and first-day readiness.
- Assists with onboarding activities that help new employees understand company policies expectations systems and field requirements.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal state and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of construction industry labor practices and workforce requirements.
- Support workplace safety initiatives in partnership with Operations and Safety teams.
- Assist with audits investigations and compliance reporting as needed.
Performance Management & Employee Development
- Support performance review processes goal check-ins and related documentation.
- Coordinate training development and employee engagement activities for field personnel and leaders.
- Assist managers with performance improvement plans coaching documentation and follow-up actions.
HR Operations
- Maintain accurate employee records HR files and required documentation in accordance with company standards.
- Support benefits administration leave of absence coordination payroll-related inquiries and employee status changes.
- Prepare routine HR reports track workforce data and assist with audits compliance reviews and process improvements.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Minimum of 3 years supporting field-based construction manufacturing industrial or similar operational environments.
- Strong employee relations and conflict resolution experience.
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Ability to travel regularly to construction sites and field locations.
- Strong communication organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build credibility and trust with employees at all organizational levels.
Preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Previous experience supporting a multi-site construction workforce.
- Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR preferred
- Experience with HRIS systems and workforce analytics.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to construction sites and field locations as needed.
- Ability to work in both office and construction environments.
- Ability to walk active job sites while adhering to safety requirements.
