JOB TITLE:

Risk Management Intern

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyomings Risk Management and Insurance Office is seeking a highly motivated detail-oriented student to join our team in a part-time internship beginning immediately and continuing through Summer 2026 and the academic year with the potential for continued employment based on performance and departmental needs. We encourage students early in their academic careers who are looking to build meaningful professional experience while completing their degree to apply.

This position provides a unique opportunity to work alongside the Universitys Chief Risk Officer and gain hands-on experience supporting a comprehensive enterprise risk management program at a Carnegie R1 land-grant university. The successful candidate will contribute to projects that directly support University operations while developing valuable skills in business administration project coordination compliance financial reconciliation reporting research data analysis technology and process improvement.

The intern will assist with a wide variety of administrative and operational responsibilities including maintaining records preparing reports and presentations reconciling financial information coordinating compliance and program activities conducting research supporting website and enterprise system updates and assisting with special projects. As the students knowledge and experience grow opportunities may include assisting with policy and procedure development business process improvement initiatives executive-level reporting and other strategic projects that support the Universitys risk management and compliance objectives.

This internship is ideal for a student who enjoys solving problems working with data learning new technologies managing multiple priorities and collaborating with professionals across the University. The position offers significant opportunities to develop analytical organizational communication and professional skills while making meaningful contributions to an office that serves the entire institution.

This position reports directly to the Universitys Chief Risk Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative support for the daily operations of the Risk Management Office.
  • Create maintain and analyze spreadsheets databases and electronic records.
  • Compile organize validate and summarize data from multiple University systems.
  • Develop recurring and ad hoc reports using University information systems and other software applications.
  • Perform financial reconciliations verify transactions track expenditures and assist with budget monitoring.
  • Assist with insurance program administration including maintaining records tracking certificates of insurance processing documentation and monitoring deadlines.
  • Conduct research related to higher education risk management insurance compliance emergency management or other assigned topics.
  • Draft edit format and proofread policies procedures guidelines reports presentations and correspondence.
  • Assist with developing and updating departmental websites online forms shared electronic files and other electronic resources.
  • Create forms templates workflow documentation and process maps to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Support data collection and reporting for compliance risk assessment insurance and enterprise risk management initiatives.
  • Prepare charts dashboards and visual presentations using Microsoft Excel PowerPoint Teams or similar tools.
  • Assist with records management and document organization using electronic filing systems.
  • Coordinate meetings prepare agendas record meeting notes and track action items.
  • Communicate professionally with faculty staff students vendors insurance carriers members of the public and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with special projects that may involve operational improvement technology implementation business continuity planning claims administration contract review support or institutional compliance.
  • Perform general office duties including filing scanning copying scheduling answering phones processing mail and maintaining office records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled student in an undergraduate or graduate level degree program at the University of Wyoming
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level degree program or completion of significant coursework in business accounting finance public administration risk management management information systems data analytics statistics law or another related discipline.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Public Administration or related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel at an intermediate or advanced level including formulas PivotTables lookups charts data validation or dashboards.
  • Experience working with databases enterprise systems or business intelligence tools.
  • Experience creating reports or analyzing data.
  • Experience with financial reconciliation accounting bookkeeping or budget tracking.
  • Experience maintaining websites using content management systems.
  • Experience creating process documentation workflows forms or standard operating procedures.
  • Experience conducting research and preparing written summaries or policy documents.
  • Experience editing technical or professional documents.
  • Experience with project coordination or administrative support in a professional office environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software systems and technologies.
