Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a student-focused dedicated Special EducationParaeducatorto assist teachers and other professional practitionersby providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
• Assist in maintaining a safe nurturing and healthy atmosphere which may include assisting students with social skill development personal hygiene toiletry needs/toilet training
• Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
• Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
• Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
• Uses special skills (i.e. sign language transliterating advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
• Performs additional non-instructional duties including but not limited to cafeteria duty bus duty hall duty and office duty

Education and Experience:

Required

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred

• Associates Degree from an accredited college or university
• A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional educational or related setting

Special Requirements:

• Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training as appropriate annually.
• Paraeducators assigned to Title I schools will be required to complete an additional assessment within a reasonable timeframe following hire or assignment.
