This is a remote role Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. Applicants living in MD DC VA PA DE or FL will only be considered.

Summary:

Responsible for reviewing and coding medical record documentation for lower complexity hospital outpatient services primarily Clinic and Emergency Department accounts across JHHS entities. Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes CPT/HCPCS procedure codes and applicable modifiers based on medical record documentation to supportaccurateand compliant claim submission.

Reviews clinical documentation andabstractsrequired data elementsin accordance withFederal State CMS HSCRC and organizational coding and billing guidelines. Utilizes electronic health records computerized encoders and revenue cycle systems to resolve routine coding edits and claim issues for assigned account types.

Works collaboratively with providers and departments to obtain clarification on documentation as needed and to resolve missing or incorrect charges within assigned areas. Organizes and prioritizes work to meet productivity and quality standards while developingproficiencyin coding guidelines regulatory requirements and organizational workflows.

This is an entry-level coding position focused on developing coding knowledge accuracy and productivity. Maintains and expands knowledge of coding and sequencing guidelines andparticipatesin quality assurance and educational activities to support ongoing professional development. Works under general supervision and guidance and collaborates as a member of the HIM and Coding team

Education:

Bachelors Degree in health information management medical coding or a related field (One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education).

Required Licensure:

  • Active approved coding credential from AAPC or AHIMA upon hire.
  • Successful completion of Outpatient CodingSpecialistIdiagnosis and CPT coding pre-employment assessment upon hire. (Required)

Essential Functions:

  • Reviewsmedicalrecordstoassignaccuratecodesforphysicianservices.
  • Ensurescompliancewithallcodingguidelinesregulationsandhospitalpolicies.
  • Maintainsup-to-dateknowledgeofcodingstandardspayerrequirementsandregulatorychanges.
  • Preparesandsubmitsaccurateandtimelycodingreportstothebillingdepartment.
  • Auditscodeddatatoensureaccuracyandcompleteness.

Work Experience:

  • Coding experience preferred.

Salary Range: Minimum 22.33/hour - Maximum 36.86/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
