An Average Day:

• Provide homemaking activities for the terminally ill
• Observe the patient for changes in general physical and mental conditions; reports any changes to the RN Case Manager
• Keep the private home clean and orderly
• Plan meals as appropriate
• Prepare and serve meals according to the familys needs and the patients plan of care
• Wash dishes and clean the kitchen after meals
• Assist the family in the practice of safety hygiene and good nutrition when possible
• Provide for cleaning of laundry and linens.
• Perform duties in compliance with the plan of care.
• Companionship reading and listening
• Help with organization of the home and surroundings
• Provide Plant Care
• Provide light duty housekeeping such as vacuuming sweeping mopping
• Complete visit documentation in accordance with hospice guidelines
• Adhere to the documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct

Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must have work/life experience as a homemaker
• Must have at least one (1) year of successful work experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Must have good oral and written communication skills
• Must have good organizational skills
• Must possess the ability to read write and follow instructions and document tasks performed
• Must demonstrate empathy for the ill injured frail and the impaired
• Must understand hospice philosophy comfortable aiding the terminally ill secure with issues of death/dying
• Must be flexible in work schedule
• An RN who is a member of a clients designated IDT must coordinate and supervise the homemaker services provided and prepare written instructions for the duties a hospice homemaker performs.
