Job Summary
GovFirst is seeking dependable and safety-conscious Highway Maintenance Laborers / Transportation Operators to support roadway maintenance operations in Seaford VA. This position is responsible for assisting with roadway repairs right-of-way maintenance equipment operation preventive maintenance emergency response operations and general highway maintenance activities while maintaining compliance with VDOT and OSHA safety standards.
- Assist with repairs and maintenance of state roadways and surrounding rights-of-way.
- Operate hand tools power tools and highway maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Follow all applicable VDOT OSHA VOSHA company and industry safety standards and procedures.
- Wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
- Support roadway maintenance and construction activities as assigned.
- Perform heavy manual labor including lifting carrying loading and unloading materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Assist with emergency response operations including snow removal storm response accident cleanup and other disaster-related activities.
- Participate as an active member of the maintenance crew to complete assigned projects and operational objectives.
- Respond to emergency call-outs including nights weekends holidays and adverse weather when required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors project management and team members regarding work assignments and project progress.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff or project management.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction activities.
- Experience operating highway maintenance equipment and performing preventive maintenance.
- Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a maintenance crew.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations outside normal working hours including nights weekends and holidays.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Equivalent experience or training may be considered.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred but not required.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
- Completion of all required VDOT and industry training.
- Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
Required Skills:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Coursework in carpentry shop mechanical drawing or general mathematics preferred. Experience & Skills: Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenance painting carpentry demolition or related trades. Knowledge of building maintenance techniques materials tools and equipment. Experience using hand tools power tools and maintenance equipment. Ability to perform carpentry painting repair and general maintenance tasks. Ability to conduct inspections and evaluate workmanship and quality. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
