Job Summary

High School Therapeutic Learning Program Clinician / School Adjustment Counselor

The High School Therapeutic Learning Program Clinician/School Adjustment Counselor provides clinical social-emotional and behavioral support to students with significant emotional behavioral and mental health needs participating in the districts Therapeutic Learning Program. The clinician collaborates closely with educators families related service providers and community agencies to ensure students access educational opportunities in a supportive and therapeutic environment while developing the skills necessary for academic social emotional and post-secondary success.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical and Counseling Services

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling services aligned with students IEP goals and social-emotional needs.
  • Conduct social-emotional and behavioral assessments and contribute to the evaluation process.
  • Develop implement and monitor therapeutic interventions that support student success in school.
  • Assist students in developing emotional regulation coping problem-solving self-advocacy and interpersonal skills.
  • Provide crisis intervention risk assessment safety planning and follow-up support as needed.
  • Support students transitioning into and out of the Therapeutic Learning Program.

Behavioral Support and Consultation

  • Collaborate with educational teams to develop and implement positive behavior support plans.
  • Analyze behavioral and social-emotional data to inform interventions and monitor progress.
  • Consult with teachers and staff regarding effective strategies to support students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Assist in creating trauma-sensitive culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments.
  • Participate in problem-solving meetings threat assessment teams and student support teams.
  • Provide professional development and coaching to staff regarding mental health trauma-informed practices and behavioral interventions

IEP Team Participation

  • Serve as an active member of multidisciplinary teams and attend IEP evaluation and parent meetings.
  • Develop measurable social-emotional behavioral and counseling goals and objectives.
  • Provide progress monitoring and written reports related to counseling and behavioral goals.

Family and Community Collaboration

  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and needs.
  • Coordinate services with outside providers mental health agencies and community organizations with appropriate consent.
  • Facilitate parent support and resource connections as needed.
  • Assist families with accessing community-based mental health and social services.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in School Adjustment Counseling Social Work School Counseling Psychology or a related field.
  • Massachusetts licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor and/or licensure as an independent clinical practitioner (LICSW LMHC or equivalent).
  • Experience working with adolescents exhibiting social emotional behavioral and mental health challenges.
  • Knowledge of special education regulations IEP development and evidence-based behavioral interventions.
  • Strong collaboration communication and consultation skills.
