Monday - Friday

Per AFSCME CBA
Starting from $18.06 per hour

Essential Job Functions

  • Secure close and maintain the overall safety and security of the building.
    Perform general custodial and housekeeping duties throughout the facility.
    Replace light bulbs tubes and related lighting components as needed.
    Set up and dismantle rooms and equipment for events and activities.
    Collect remove and properly dispose of trash and recyclable materials.
    Perform snow removal and apply salt to sidewalks entrances and other designated areas.
    Sweep mop scrub and maintain floors and other building surfaces.
    Clean and dust furniture display cases lockers windows doors trim and related furnishings.
    Move and reposition equipment and furniture as necessary to facilitate cleaning and maintenance activities.
    Prepare surfaces for painting and paint walls ceilings doors frames trim and related areas.
    Vacuum spot clean and extract carpets as required.
    Clean sanitize and restock restrooms and locker rooms.
    Shut off water valves and electrical breakers when necessary and appropriate.
    Perform minor plumbing repairs and maintenance.
    Report maintenance and repair needs to the Head Custodian or Building Engineer.
    Coordinate work activities with the Head Custodian Building Engineer and Principal.
    Protect district property against fire flooding theft vandalism and unauthorized entry.
    Operate maintain and properly care for custodial equipment and supplies.
    Assist vendors inspectors and contractors as needed.
    Respond to emergency situations and work overtime assignments when required.
    Attend required training sessions seminars and professional development activities.
    Perform other related duties as assigned.
    Maintain regular reliable and punctual attendance.

REQUIREMENTS


High School Graduate. College or trade school classes preferred.
Valid drivers license
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds including pushing and pulling items such as tables desks and cabinets.
Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding up to 30 high
Ability to use hand tools and power tools including a cordless drill and sander
Be able to speak read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance
Be able to apply math concepts such as general math fractions percentages at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance
Be able to read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and cleaning chemical labels
Be neat in appearance
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community
Upon request present a certificate signed by a licensed physician appointed by the District verifying the physical ability to perform the job

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret directions and written material. Ability to write clearly. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees students parents and the general public.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios proportions and general math to practical situations.

Most custodians work within a school setting. The job typically requires some physical exertion; individuals in this position may be on their feet throughout the workday. The person in this position needs to move about inside the school building and addition the person may need to ascend/descend a ladder to analyze a facility or piece of equipment and may need to occasionally push or lift equipment. The employee will need specific vision abilities to analyze facility needs. The employee may be required to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. The employee is responsible to maintain the safety of the building and grounds and report any concerns.
