Position Summary

Prepare herbarium specimens in a standard archival process.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare scientific plant specimens in the final step of their preservation process. Specimens have been previously pressed and dried and will be preserved permanently by gluing and sewing them to herbarium paper.
  • Exercise judgement in this process in order to handle a wide variety of specimens.
  • Repair existing herbarium specimens by re-gluing and sewing onto paper.
  • Occasionally participate in public outreach by giving demonstrations of this process to visitors to the Herbarium.

Qualifications

  • Capable of delivering accurate and efficient work.
  • Excellent eye-hand coordination.
  • Minimum of a H.S. diploma; college coursework biology preferred.
  • Background in design art or craft desirable.

Physical Demand & Work Environment

  • This position is primarily indoors. Employees must be able to work in a stationary position and stand and sit for extended periods while using fine motor skills with their hands. The position also requires the ability to lift and carry glue supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule

  • This is a full-time union role.
    • Monday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM

Regular Days Off:Saturday and Sunday
