Primary Function

Dacon isseekingan experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support our West Texas operations. This is a field-based on-call position responsible for the inspection maintenance diagnosis and repair of a diverse fleet of trucks trailers and heavy construction equipment across active job sites throughout the West Texas Region (Permian Basin and surrounding areas). The position will report to Dacons Equipment Maintenance Supervisor. The ideal candidate is self-directed safety-conscious and skilled at working independently in remote and demanding environments.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any orall ofthe following functions:

  • Respond to field dispatch calls for equipment breakdowns malfunctions or scheduled maintenance across West Texas job sites.

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical hydraulic electrical and pneumatic systems on heavy equipment including but not limited to excavators cranes aerial lifts digger derricks bucket trucks service trucks and fleet vehicles.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned fleet equipmentin accordance withmanufacturer specifications and company schedules.

  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-repair inspections to ensure equipment is safe and roadworthy before returning to service.

  • Accurately document all maintenance repairs and parts used in the fleet management system.

  • Coordinate with site supervisors and the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor to prioritize and schedule repairs to minimize downtime.

  • Maintaina service vehicle stocked withappropriate tools parts and supplies for field repairs.

  • Identify warranty repair opportunities and coordinate with vendors or dealers as appropriate.

  • Comply with all OSHA DOT and company safety standards at all times.

  • Assistin the evaluation of equipment condition for repair-vs-replace decisions.

  • Communicate proactively with supervisorsregardingrepair status parts needs and estimated return-to-service timelines.

  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment or fleet mechanic in a construction utility or industrial environment.

  • Demonstratedproficiencyin diagnosing and repairing diesel engines hydraulic systems electrical systems and drivetrain components.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanicalhydraulic andelectrical schematics and technical manuals.

  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL); mustmaintaina clean MVR.

  • Current DOT medical cardrequired.

  • Must be available for on-call dispatch including nights and weekends as needed.

  • Must supply own hand toolsappropriate forthe trade.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Preferred

  • Experience working on utility or T&D construction equipment (aerial devices digger derricks cable plows etc.).

  • ASE or manufacturer certifications (e.g. Caterpillar John Deere Manitowoc Altec Terex).

  • NCCCO or relevant equipment certification.

  • Welding and fabrication skills (MIG/stick).

  • Prior experience in electric utility construction or T&D environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme West Texas weather conditions including high heat wind and dust.

  • Regularly required tolift upto 75 lbs.; occasional heavier lifts withassistanceor mechanical aids.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces at elevation and in physically demanding positions (kneeling crawling reaching overhead).

  • Ability to climb ladders scaffolding and work at heights.

  • Ability towear required PPE at all times including hardhat safety glasses steel-toe boots FR clothing and hearing protection.

  • Ability tooperatecompany vehicles safely andmaintaina valid drivers license.

  • Travel within the West Texas regionrequireddaily; overnight travel may berequiredperiodically.

  • Ability to work extended hours including overtime and weekends asrequired.

Environmental Conditions

  • Regular outdoor work in all weather conditions including extreme heat cold humidity wind and precipitation.

  • Exposure tonoise dust heavy equipment and active construction environments.

  • Exposure topotential industrial and electrical hazards.

  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires maintenance of a valid CDL acceptable driving record compliance with company motor vehicle policies and compliance with drug and alcohol testing requirements.
