Job Summary

As a Heavy Civil Construction Laborer you will work under the direction of the Foreman and perform a variety of construction-related tasks. This includes heavy lifting digging equipment cleaning site preparation pipe system assembly and operating construction tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digging spreading and leveling dirt sand and gravel with a pick shovel or rake.
  • Lift carry and hold construction materials tools and supplies.
  • Clean tools equipment materials and work areas.
  • Mix pour and spread concrete asphalt gravel and other materials using hand tools.
  • Join wrap and seal sections of pipe.
  • Perform a variety of routine non-machine tasks such as removing forms filling excavations placing pipe sections in trench and assembling sections of pipe.
  • Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tapping soil jack hammering and assisting in the excavation of pipes.
  • Must be able to climb on off and under various pieces of equipment and physically access all parts of equipment to perform job requirements.
  • Comply with all safety policies practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One (1) year of heavy civil construction experience preferred
  • Must be able to travel if needed
  • A valid drivers license


Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb on off and under various pieces of equipment and physically access all parts of equipment to perform job requirements.
  • Manual dexterity is sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers. Ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
Working Conditions:The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Outdoor exposure to changing weather conditions (rain sun snow wind etc.)
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions extreme cold and extreme heat.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/or precarious places.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
