TITLE: Health Teacher Grades 47 - Bellingham Memorial School

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal to develop students skills and competence in Health Education and the ability to problem solve in a wide variety of settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging health education instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Health Curriculum Frameworks
  • Teach topics including personal wellness nutrition mental and emotional health substance abuse prevention healthy relationships decision-making and personal safety
  • Create a positive inclusive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation discussion and reflection
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and educational technology to support student learning and engagement
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to students and families
  • Collaborate with colleagues counselors nurses administrators and student support staff to support student well-being
  • Participate in team meetings professional development and school-wide initiatives
  • Serve as a positive role model and promote healthy lifestyle choices among students
  • Support the schools broader commitment to student belonging respectful relationships and developmentally appropriate learning

SKILLS/ABILITY:

  1. Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level or discipline preferred.



CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Health Education Physical Education Education or related field required; Masters degree preferred
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure in Health/Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Experience working with upper elementary and/or middle school students preferred
  • Strong classroom management communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and health education best practices
  • Experience integrating educational technology and differentiated instruction preferred
  • SEI Endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain
  • CORI and fingerprinting background checks are required
  • Citizenship residency or work visa required

SALARY: Per BTA Contract

CLASSIFICATION: BTA

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend sit or stand frequently.
