About the role

Anthropic is hiring a Health and Safety Specialist to lead the day-to-day H&S work at our San Francisco headquarters and across our broader US footprint. As Anthropic continues to scale we need someone in the room operating our health and safety programs responding to what comes up and being the trusted face of H&S for our employees.

Were looking for someone whos spent their career doing the hands-on work of occupational health and safety running inspections investigating incidents managing cases through to closure supporting committees and emergency response teams and getting employees engaged in the programs we run. This is a tactical execution-focused role: youll operate the programs we have contribute to the ones were building and free up the EHS Lead to focus on the broader strategy and the specialty environments (biolabs data centers robotics) that need dedicated attention.

You wont be doing this alone. Youll partner closely with the EHS Lead with our Workplace Security HR and Legal teams in SF and with cross-functional partners at our other US offices. As we expand the broader Global Safety and Intelligence Services team youll have peers around you to collaborate with on shared work.

Responsibilities

Youll run the regular cadence of onsite H&S work at our San Francisco office inspections hazard and risk assessments ergonomics program activities and follow-through on the findings. Youll investigate workplace incidents injuries and illnesses and youll manage occupational health cases through their full lifecycle from initial report through return-to-work and closure coordinating with our occupational health providers HR and Legal partners. Youll also own OSHA recordkeeping for our US sites including the annual 300/300A process.

Youll be the in-the-room face of H&S for our SF employees and partners. That means facilitating and supporting our health and safety committee and volunteer emergency response team in SF running meetings coordinating drills and following through on action items and supporting similar work at our other US sites.

Youll deliver and coordinate H&S training across our US offices keeping our training calendar current running sessions where helpful and partnering with vendors and internal teams where it makes sense. Youll manage H&S vendor relationships (occupational health ergonomics training audit) and engage with landlords building management and contractors to make sure shared environments are safe and meet our standards.

Youll keep our H&S documentation registers and reporting systems accurate and current and youll contribute to the broader H&S programs the EHS Lead is building sharing what youre seeing in the field helping pilot new programs at SF and bringing tactical know-how to standards work as it comes up.

You may be a good fit if you
  • Have 7 years of experience in a similar hands-on H&S role ideally with time spent operating H&S programs day-to-day
  • Have strong working knowledge of US federal OSHA and California Title 8 (Cal/OSHA) requirements; familiarity with other US states (Washington New York) is a plus
  • Are comfortable being the H&S expert in the room translating regulatory requirements into clear decisions and pushing back when something isnt safe
  • Are passionate about workplace H&S and bring that energy to the people you work with
  • Have an ability to motivate and persuade others to collaborate take action and engage with H&S-related programs
  • Are resilient and adaptable in fast-paced dynamic environments comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritize when everything looks urgent
  • Write clear useful SOPs playbooks and program documents and can create engaging presentations and training content
  • Have hands-on experience with software tools for H&S incident reporting risk assessment learning management and related functions
Strong candidates may also have
  • A Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety or another H&S-related field
  • Certifications such as CSP ASP/GSP CIH or COHN or comparable US-recognized H&S/occupational-health credentials
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems)
  • Background in occupational health fire safety or industrial hygiene
  • Experience operating H&S programs across multiple US states or sites
  • Excellent computer skills quick to pick up new applications and systems at the user and/or administrator level
Logistics

This is an onsite role based out of our San Francisco office. Were looking for someone who wants to be present in the office consistently typically at least four days per week. The work is in-person by nature: engaging with employees inspections drills committees incident response and the kind of in-the-room presence that builds trust with everyone in the workplace.

Youll occasionally travel to our other US offices (Seattle New York City) as needed to support inspections drills audits and incident response. We expect this to land in the 510% range varying by quarter and incident volume.

For sales roles the range provided is the roles On Target Earnings (OTE) range meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary:

$180000 - $230000 USD

Logistics

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However some roles may require more time in our offices.
