The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the states public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.
Description of Work
The Health and Physical Education Consultant provides statewide leadership guidance and support to districts and schools to ensure high-quality implementation of North Carolinas Healthful Living Standards. This role focuses on advancing student health wellness and physical literacy through standards-based instruction professional development and cross-agency collaboration. The consultant provides leadership in making recommendations for policy program and fiscal operations as appropriate to the needs of Health and Physical Education. The consultant may be asked to help support state and federal initiatives. This position is expected to provide expertise in current instructional practices in health and physical education.Job Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of North Carolina Health Education and Physical Education standards across K12 settings.
Develop and disseminate instructional resources guidance documents and best practices.
Design and deliver statewide professional development for educators and district leaders.
Facilitate training on standards assessment and evidence-based instructional practices.
Support educator understanding of whole child approaches including physical mental and social-emotional wellness.
Provide technical assistance to improve instructional quality and student outcomes.
Facilitate the review and revision of Health and Physical Education standards and related resources.
Analyze data to inform program improvement and monitor implementation effectiveness.
Support integration of assessment strategies aligned to standards.
Interpret and communicate state and federal policies related to health and physical education.
Represent NCDPI in statewide and national meetings committees and initiatives.

- Strong facilitation presentation and professional learning design skills. Experience analyzing and using data to inform decision-making.

The Office of Teaching and Learning is responsible for facilitating the review revision and implementation of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study in Arts Education (Dance Music Theatre Arts and Visual Arts) English Language Arts English Language Development Guidance Healthful Living (Health and Physical Education) Mathematics Science Social Studies and World Languages. The Office also provides technical assistance professional development and resources to support all K-12 educators with standards-based instruction. The Office additionally supports multiple legislative and grant-related programs initiatives and reporting requirements related to the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA); Title III Part A (English Language Acquisition); Title V (Sexual Risk Avoidance); CDC Physical Activity Physical Education Nutrition and Chronic Disease Management; Specialized Instructional Support Personnel; and state legislative and policy requirements related to areas such as Character Education Multilingual Learners Dual/Language Immersion Global Education Healthy Active Children and STEM.
Minimum Education and Experience
