Madison College is seeking a Head Mens Basketball Coach & Event and Employee Coordinator! This position provides leadership for the mens basketball team while overseeing the departments game and event management operations and athletic department staffing functions.

Success in this role involves delivering classroom instruction (teaching one non-lecture activity-based class each semester) coordinating all game management workers and the concessions coordinator across all seasons ensuring effective event logistics and supporting employee onboarding student job recruitment and managing ongoing staffing processes.

This position contributes to institutional objectives by enhancing student and community engagement maintaining regulatory compliance improving operational efficiency providing employee support and fostering a positive inclusive environment for employees and student-athletes alike.

As the Head Coach you will oversee all aspects of the mens basketball program including recruiting coaching player development scheduling compliance and program operations.

Success in this role requires someone who can build a competitive basketball program while creating a positive student experience both on and off the court.

This position reports to the Director of Athletics and to the Associate Dean in the School of STEM for the instructional responsibilities.

What Youll Do

Athletics

• Leads all aspects of an intercollegiate athletic program by coaching providing mentoring to student-athletes and other coaches and planning and conducting practices and competitions. Ensures compliance with NJCAA and institutional regulations manages student-athlete recruitment and oversees all equipment and fundraising efforts to provide effective leadership for athletic programming.
• Provides instruction and may provide certification training by developing curriculum teaching courses and delivering certification programs to support student learning and professional development.
• Leads department staffing processes by recruiting hiring training and scheduling athletic office personnel and game management staff while overseeing onboarding and payroll processes to ensure adequate staffing while creating systems and processes to increase efficiency.
• Manages all internal departmental contract coordination including contracts for coaches game officials and intercollegiate competitions with other colleges.
• Manages event operations by hiring training and overseeing our concessions coordinator; hiring training and managing our game management workers; and coordinating locker room access for events and student-athletes.

Instruction:

• Teach a Team Sports activity-based class that includes a basketball unit minimum of two contact hours per semester.
• Depending on the timing of hire teaching responsibilities may begin in Spring 2027.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

• Masters degree in related fields such as Education Recreation Management Exercise Science or Sports Management.

Experience

• Two (2) years (4000 hours) of recent experience related to coaching and/or teaching responsibilities.
• Experience recruiting and developing student-athletes.
• Three to five years of experience in an intercollegiate athletics setting is preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of NJCAA regulations compliance requirements protocols and industry best practices for managing and administering intercollegiate athletic programs.
• Ability to implement support systems that enhance academic success and retention considering the academic and developmental needs of student-athletes.
• Skill in coordinating staffing processes including recruitment training scheduling and timekeeping oversight.
• Skill in planning coordinating and supervising athletic events.
• Ability to develop and teach curriculum.
• Ability to manage and lead an athletic program including strategic planning staff and athlete development budget oversight fundraising initiatives and effective team management.
• Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
• Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

Position Details:

Schedule: This is a full-time exempt 52-week position. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday; however evening and weekend work is expected during the athletic season and flexibility is required.
