Haptics Product Design Engineer

The Haptic Engineering team develops innovative haptic solutions that are central to Apples products including the iPhone and Apple Watch! Our key goal is to enable the worlds best user-experience and explore the possibilities using haptics. We are seeking a Product Design / Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design development and validation of next-generation haptic actuators and experiences. Imagine what you could do at Apple! You will have end-to-end responsibility for the mechanical design and integration of a haptic actuator from concept to production. You will be expected to work with a variety of cross functional teams and vendors to accomplish this.

Design and define mechanical components and assembly schemesnBrainstorm concepts and solutions to haptic related challengesnPrototype evaluate and debug innovative ideasnGenerate detailed specifications and drawingsnAnalyze static and dynamic structures to quantify fundamental device performance through simulation and experimentsnParticipate in the development of new manufacturing and assembly processes with external vendorsnPeriodic international travel based on project needs (u003c 10%)nValidate and characterize designs through multiple iterationsnConduct failure analysis and design of experiments (DOEs) to resolve root cause and implement corrective actionsnGenerate new intellectual propertynCollaborating with Industrial Design and system engineering groups to determine and achieve both functional and aesthetic goalsnDesigning for manufacturability with Process Manufacturing Design Technical Operations and other cross-functional teamsnCommunicating multi-functionally and throughout management structure on a regular basis (written verbal and presentation)nManaging and tracking multiple priorities within schedule requirementsnLeading design reviews and design documentation releases

Minimum requirement of a bachelors degreenExperience with 3D CAD 2D drafting GDu0026T and tolerance analysisnStrong fundamentals in mechanicsnSkilled at problem-solving using tools like the scientific method root cause analysis and DOE creation (Design of Experiments) nProficient with mechanical or electromagnetic FEA toolsnApplied knowledge of electrical circuits material science and basic chemistry nTeam oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Project experience in consumer electronics products designnDesign and/or research experience with haptic technologiesnExperience in the design and application of electromagnetic and actuatorsnExpert knowledge of electro-mechanics and dynamicsnProficiency with data analysis tools (JMP MATLAB Excel etc)nHigh volume mass production experience (DFM)
