Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 8 hours per day approximately 40 hours per week subject to the approved GSRP program calendar
Reports To: Site Administrator /Center Director / GSRP Program Director
Position Summary
The GSRP Lead Teacher is responsible for planning implementing assessing documenting and continuously improving a high-quality preschool program for four-year-old children enrolled in Michigans Great Start Readiness Program.
The Lead Teacher works as a member of a teaching team with the Associate Teacher and other program staff. The Lead Teacher is responsible for ensuring that classroom instruction child assessment family engagement curriculum implementation documentation health and safety and daily classroom operations comply with Michigan GSRP requirements the approved curriculum applicable child-care licensing requirements and program policies.
The Lead Teacher is expected to create a safe inclusive developmentally appropriate culturally responsive and engaging learning environment that prepares children socially emotionally physically and academically for kindergarten.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must meet Michigan GSRP Lead Teacher credential requirements upon hire.
A Lead Teacher may qualify through an applicable Michigan teaching certificate and endorsement including:
Michigan teaching certificate with Early Childhood Education (ZA) endorsement;
Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement;
Applicable Birth-K credential/endorsement; or
Applicable PK-3 endorsement;
OR
Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with specialization in preschool teaching subject to Michigan GSRP requirements.
Michigans current GSRP materials should be reviewed for the candidates exact credential before hiring because qualification pathways and endorsements can change.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of preschool/early childhood teaching experience.
Previous GSRP Head Start or high-quality preschool experience.
Experience with developmentally appropriate practice.
Experience using an approved GSRP curriculum.
Experience with authentic child assessment.
Experience working with children with developmental delays or disabilities.
Knowledge of Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality.
Strong family-engagement and communication skills.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain required certification.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
