Job Summary
Position Title: Grill Cook
Department: Kitchen Operations
Reports To: Kitchen Manager / General Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
The Grill Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking steaks burgers seafood poultry and other menu items to established recipes and quality standards in a fast-paced family steakhouse environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring guests receive safe high-quality meals prepared accurately consistently and in a timely manner while maintaining a clean organized and food-safe work environment.
- Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes cooking specifications and presentation standards.
- Grill steaks chops burgers chicken seafood and other proteins to guest-requested temperatures and company standards.
- Ensure food quality portion control appearance and taste meet restaurant expectations.
- Monitor grill temperatures and cooking times to maintain consistency and food safety.
- Set up and stock grill station with all necessary supplies before during and after service.
- Rotate inventory utilizing First-In First-Out (FIFO) procedures.
- Maintain proper food holding temperatures and comply with all health department regulations.
- Assist with food preparation including portioning marinating seasoning and stocking ingredients.
- Communicate effectively with servers kitchen staff and management to ensure timely order fulfillment.
- Keep workstations equipment utensils and kitchen areas clean and sanitized.
- Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries.
- Follow opening closing and side-work procedures.
- Report equipment malfunctions food shortages and safety concerns to management immediately.
- Support team members during busy periods and assist in other kitchen functions as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year of grill line cook or restaurant kitchen experience preferred.
- Experience cooking steaks and other grilled menu items strongly preferred.
- Food Handler Certification or ability to obtain certification as required by state or local law.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to accurately cook meats to specified temperatures and doneness levels.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to read and follow recipes and production schedules.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods often exceeding eight (8) hours per shift.
- Ability to lift carry push and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend stoop kneel reach and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work safely around hot surfaces open flames sharp utensils and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to heat steam smoke and varying kitchen temperatures.
- Fast-paced family restaurant and steakhouse environment.
- Frequent exposure to hot cooking equipment grills fryers ovens and food preparation areas.
- Evening weekend holiday and overtime work may be required based on business needs.
