We are currently in search of a Grassroots Community Organizer for a Racial Justice Advocacy Nonprofit. The position is On-site in Washington DC. This is a part-time temporary to permanent position.

POSITION TITLE: Grassroots Community Organizer

SCHEDULE: 20-25 hours/week

DURATION: Temporary-to-permanent

HOURLY RATE: $25.00 - $28.00

Is This Your Dream Job The Grassroots Community Organizer will be responsible for leading grassroots outreach mobilization and base-building with mothers who have direct experience with the family policing system particularly in Wards 7 and 8. This role will recruit mothers into advocacy and develop their leadership while advancing campaigns that dismantle the systems harming Black families in DC. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and Founder this position is ideal for an empathetic relationship builder who is passionate about racial justice and economic equity. If converted to a permanent full-time role the anticipated salary range is $57000$60000. If converted to a permanent part-time role pay will be prorated based on hours worked using the equivalent full-time salary range.

Our Ideal Candidate:

2 years of event coordination and/or community organizing experience

Associates or Bachelors degree required

Ability to understand and clearly communicate the organizations policy work and complex issues

Strong relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to build trust and recruit mothers navigating crisis

Highly organized with attention to detail

Experience using Little Green Light Action Network or similar CRM platforms a plus

How You Will Spend Your Day:

Build and sustain authentic long-term relationships with mothers with lived experience in the family policing system organizing them into the organizations base and developing their leadership and advocacy skills

Lead street-level outreach and canvassing particularly in Wards 7 and 8 to grow and deepen the organizations base

Lead recruitment and mobilization of mothers into the organizations organizing initiatives

Plan and execute organizing events including community convenings advocacy actions and coalition gatherings

Staff resource and community fairs across DC to expand the organizations reach and build new relationships

Develop and facilitate workshops trainings and peer leadership spaces for mothers engaged in the organizations organizing programs

Engage with mothers using a trauma-informed organizing lens building power and leadership not dependency

Support mothers in developing testimony for DC Council hearings and other advocacy moments as part of broader campaign mobilization

Track outreach and organizing metrics (contacts recruits leadership development) to inform campaign strategy
