Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a GI Technician you will provide critical support and direct assistance during gastrointestinal procedures ensuring a sterile safe and efficient environment for patient care.
Every day you will expertly prepare procedure rooms assist physicians with equipment handling and maintenance monitor patient comfort and meticulously clean and sterilize instruments to uphold the highest standards of infection control.
To be successful you will demonstrate outstanding attention to detail strong teamwork skills and a vigilant proactive demeanor contributing significantly to successful diagnostic and therapeutic GI interventions.
- Demonstrates adherence to the Standards of conduct requirements.
- Performs scrub functions for all general or minor specialty cases. Demonstrates competence in use of the computer to generate case cart pick lists and physician preference lists. Updates physician preference lists as necessary.
- Demonstrates knowledge of safe principles of positioning patients intra-operatively. Understands the relationship between anatomy and physiology and positioning and recognizes potential safety hazards to the patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles of aseptic technique. Demonstrates competency in the operation of : Decontamination unit Steam autoclave Chemical sterilization unit Utilizes resources and resource material as appropriate
- Adheres to hospital policies departmental policies and AORN recommended practices.
- Establishes and maintains positive interpersonal relationships with patients visitors and other hospital personnel.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 1-2 years procedureal/surgical experience in General GYN and GI or a graduate of a surgical technician program preferred.
- Familiar with the different surgical equipment and instrumentation and its functions.
- Requires close concentration and high degree of accuracy and organization to prepare set up and assists on surgical procedures.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record systems.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support required.
