Job Summary

Hunton Services a division of Hunton Group in Houston TX has a new and exciting opportunity for you to join our organization as a Generator Service Technician. The selected candidate will be responsible for the inspection maintenance diagnostics repair testing and emergency support of commercial and industrial power generation systems. This role performs field service work on diesel and natural gas generators automatic transfer switches (ATS) fuel systems and temporary power equipment while maintaining the highest standards of safety quality and customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance services on diesel and natural gas generators including monthly quarterly semi-annual annual and major interval inspections.
  • Complete oil changes filter replacements coolant inspections battery testing leak inspections operational testing and alarm reviews.
  • Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot generator failures voltage irregularities ATS faults fuel system issues and controller alarms.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting repairs and component replacements.
  • Service and repair starters alternators battery chargers sensors controllers fuel systems cooling systems and related generator components.
  • Perform load bank testing and generator performance evaluations.
  • Connect temporary cabling and support resistive and reactive load bank testing activities.
  • Monitor and record voltage frequency load percentages temperatures pressures and other operational parameters during testing.
  • Prepare detailed service reports inspection reports repair summaries and load bank testing documentation.
  • Track labor hours parts usage and customer approvals.
  • Respond to emergency service calls involving power outages generator failures ATS failures and critical power system issues.
  • Participate in after-hours weekend and holiday on-call rotations as required.
  • Maintain company vehicles tools and equipment safely and professionally.
  • Support temporary power projects and emergency response mobilizations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or vocational training preferred.
  • 3 years of experience servicing commercial or industrial generators preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engine systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting generator controls electrical systems and automatic transfer switches.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics wiring diagrams and service manuals.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic software and computerized control systems.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service assignments.
  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Certifications:

  • EGSA Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • NFPA 70E
  • CDL (Preferred)
  • OEM Generator Manufacturer Certifications

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders work in confined spaces and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel locally and occasionally overnight as required.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests.
