General Supervisor Maintenance

Overview:

Contribute to Sterling Steel safely producing high quality products at the lowest cost by

Supervising Maintenance (Electrical & Mechanical) Supervisors and all Maintenance activities in the Rod Mill.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Plan preventative and general maintenance work and submit purchasing requisitions for necessary supplies and services.
• Plan for and lead teams during weekly and annual maintenance shutdowns.
• Participate in annual budgeting process.
• Continually strive to improve performance and quality by achieving all maintenance related KPIs
• Provide maintenance input when requested by Rod Mill Manager.
• Participate in training from HR Rod Manager Safety and Leggett & Platt
• Partner with HR in hiring and disciplining maintenance employees and performing investigations regarding work comp employee relations or union grievance.
• Encourage cooperation and teamwork among maintenance and production employees.
• Direct train and provide back-up for Mechanical and Electrical Supervisors
• Train and assist maintenance employees as needed.
• Report to work as scheduled and available for on call as agreed upon
• Follow all related SJPs
• Adhere to and enforce all SSC Policies and Work Rules
• Comply with all SSC Safety rules and ensure all employees work safely
• All other duties as assigned

Experience/Education/Skill/Knowledge:

• Maintenance mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience.
• Trouble-shooting skills in both mechanical and electrical departments.
• Strong leadership and teamwork facilitation skills.
• Willingness and ability to respond to calls 24/7.
• Ability to effectively read write understand and otherwise communicate in English
• Willing and able to learn retain and apply new information
• Effective organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
• Average Excel Outlook and Word skills with ability to learn new software
• Minimum 3 yr supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
• Previous work in Steel Mill (specifically a Rod Mill) a plus.
• Bachelors degree in business/management/manufacturing or related preferred

Physical Demands:

• Work in extreme temperatures (hot & cold) while wearing required PPE
• Work at heights wearing fall protection occasionally
• Work in dusty greasy dirty mill outside and climate-controlled office environments
• Mobility to move to any area of assigned location (Rod Mill Admin Building or Melt Shop)
• Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk/computer
• Dexterity to operate office machinery
• Strength and stamina to walk long distances and remain on feet for majority of workday
• Walk up/down stairs & climb ladders safely
• Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Communicate effectively in English verbally & in writing
• Above average computer skills including dexterity to type on keyboard
• Dexterity to operate necessary tools/machinery/mobile equipment

Base Salary Range:
$90000 - $120000

Sterling Steel employees receive a base salary plus production-based incentive pay.

This is a good-faith estimate of the salary range of this position. Specific wages are offered based on the employees experience and education.
