Job Summary

SummaryBalfour Beatty is seeking a General Superintendent in Charlotte. The ideal candidate will be a proven field leader with strong communication and coordination skills responsible for managing all day-to-day construction activities General Superintendent has the primary responsibility for all field operations including the coordination of subcontractors work. Responsible for all field activities associated with the project including ultimate responsibility for implementation of ourZero Harmsafety culture for the jobsite supervision of all field construction work by subcontractors and self-performed work. Shares responsibility with the project manager for developing the project budget actively participating in the preconstruction phase and ensuring that the project is built on time within budget and according to company policies and procedures. Manages and mentorssuperintendents assistant superintendents and other field FunctionsProject Financial Responsibilities: Help the project manager review and update progress and cost reports schedules and requirements for completion on a regular basis. Activelyparticipate in development and management of projects general conditions construction schedule project planning/phasing and buyout strategy during preconstruction. Preconstruction Services:Participate in preconstruction planning when possible regarding the project schedule and budget. Review project estimates and cost control system at the beginning of the with subcontractors and employees (along with the project manager)a consistent level of expectations and direction regarding schedules construction methods company policies and procedures permits quality control and other performance standards. Ensure all employees have relevant safety/loss prevention training for their position. Participate in making scopes for subcontracts and pre-bid/post-bid meetings. Project Start-up and Scheduling: Thoroughly understand project specifications the contract and the contracts general conditions and confirm that all materials and subcontract work comply with contract documents and quality specifications. Implement programs for EEO risk management training and quality control. Explore and advise the project team onappropriate changes in methods materials schedules and procedures. Ensure all materials are properly tested according to specifications and ensure that all test results are properly recorded. Project Administration Operations and Close-out:Ensure that project site and company assets are secure. Communicate individual safety roles responsibilities and expectations to our clients Operations staff subcontractors vendors and the public to maintain a safe and respectful working environment at all times. Manage and document employee and subcontractor problems or nonperformance (along with theproject manager) through mentoring/training disciplinary action termination back charges or other appropriate actions. Review and approve all bills for materials and subcontractor requisitions. Confirm that extracharges from subcontractors/suppliers are reasonable and work is correctly executed. Coordinate with the project manager for approval on extra charges. Facilitate weekly project progress and safety meetings with all subcontractor representatives and coordinate the upcoming weeks work. Partner withSafety and HealthProfessionals assigned to the project site. Attend all progress meetings with the owner/architect representatives. Keep owners/architects informed of progress throughout the life of the project. Ensure that the project closeout process isfinalized to settle all financial obligations demobilize all resources and transition the project to the Customer Relations: Build effective relationships with customers design team subcontractors suppliers and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customers expectations. Make presentations to proactively seek new business opportunities through Leadership and Employee Development: Promote the Creed. Communicate vision and purpose through Service Talent and Choices. Build and stretch people and self by providing challenging assignments achievable andmotivational development plans and ongoing actionable and candid feedback that help employees achieve career goals. Negotiate skillfully in tough situations with internal and external parties by winning concessionswithout damaging relationships and being direct and diplomatic. Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company its values and the employeeswhile maintaining constant focus on meeting or exceeding customer requirements and expectations. Assist in developing/facilitating superintendent-related company training RequirementsHigh School Diploma or equivalent. 10 yearsof commercial construction field experience. Depending upon the project size scope and complexity the years of experience may vary. Depending upon the role this may require demonstrated ability to assist with more than one project at a time. Strong understanding of structural MEP and architectural coordination. Proven ability to manage site operations safety and schedules. Excellent communication leadership and conflict-resolution skills. Proficiency with construction software such as Procore Bluebeam andPrimavera Experience:Bachelors degree in Construction Management Engineering or related field. Experience managing a wide variety of project types (ground-up renovation adaptive reuse projects). Demonstrated success leading diverse subcontractor teams. OSHA 30 certification and advanced safety training.
