Job Summary
As a Physician Assistant you will perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for consultation assessment diagnosis treatment follow-up and outcome evaluation for patients who are consulted for Hematology/Oncology service inpatient or seen in clinic outpatient at Elmhurst Hospital. As per proposed team model each PA will be paired with an attending to work directly with.
Responsibilities
- Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations with documentation on EPIC electronic medical record system for inpatient and outpatient consultations.
- Assist/perform bone marrow biopsies to improve procedural efficiency and reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment
- Initiates documents and communicates the plan of care and follows-up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
- Supporting care of patients admitted for inpatient chemotherapy or oncologic workup including coordination of care and monitoring for treatment related issues
- Inbox management responding to patient messages medication refills symptom related concerns for hematology oncology patients
- Assistance with e-consults and coordination of referrals
- Writes orders for medications laboratory work and diagnostic tests. Assist in obtaining specialty medication for oncology patients. Interprets laboratory and test results as they pertain to hematology/medical oncology/appropriateness for chemotherapy treatment.
- Confers with attending physicians residents nursing staff and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
- Management of urgent infusion center issues including infusion reactions acute symptom management same day clinical concerns
- Performs related duties as required.
- Special projects and related duties at the discretion of the department director.
Qualifications
-Bachelors Degree required.
-Open to new graduates will train.
-Licensed Physician Assistant (LPA) by the New York State Department of Education required.
-Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
-Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
-MS word basic PowerPoint basic EPIC.
-Excellent written and oral communication commitment to medical education/willingness to learn in rapidly growing field with new treatment advances time management in high volume practice/consult heavy service critical thinking ability to prioritize urgent issues.
Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $68.52 - $91.36 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience education and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
