OVERVIEW OF SUMNER G. WHITTIER SCHOOL:

The WHITTIER school is a K-8 Elementary school that offers a joyful approach to learning in adiverse respectful and inclusive environment for approximately 580 students in early childhoodthrough eighth-grade. We have two sections of each grade level K- 8 with class sizes thataverage from 18-24 per class 53% English Learners and 12% Special Education students. POSITION OVERVIEW:
The WHITTIER SCHOOL seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching musiceducation to students in grades K-8th Grade and assists the staff of the school in theimprovement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoymentappreciation and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences whichinclude singing moving to music playing of instruments and listening and performs other dutiesdirectly related to this job description.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches general music to K-8th grade including harmony appreciation history and ensemble.
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and
  • skill levels of students.
  • Provides opportunities for music ensembles including rock band choir& musicals.
  • Plans rehearses and directs students in three musical programs for school andcommunity (Veterans Day HOLIDAY Vocal Night Memorial Day Concerts).
  • Differentiatemusic curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
  • Plans abalanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation rehearsal andinstruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Develops and refines musiccurriculum based on MENC standards of creating performing and responding.
  • Establishesand maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive environmentduring practice group rehearsals and music performances.
  • Evaluates each students musicalgrowth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Cooperation with Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies open house parent meetings and seasonal programs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum BA or MA in Music or Music Education
  • Massachusetts Teaching Certification Music Education K-12
  • Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
  • Strong instrumental skills including piano accompanimentOrff Kodaly or Dalcroze training strongly encouraged

Salary:

Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association. SY 26-27. Pay Range - $65178 - $125654.
