Friends Central School is an independent coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 850 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood. The Lower School which is grades Nursery through Fifth Grade has approximately 270 students.

General Maintenance Worker

This is an hourly non-exempt full-time (12 month) position and reports to the Director of City Avenue Campus Operations. Primary responsibilities will include various general maintenance groundskeeping and painting projects at the City Avenue campus. Working independently or closely with other employees this position supports the construction installation repair and maintenance of school structures furniture flooring ceiling doors windows roofing and other building components as well as landscaping and grounds maintenance projects.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Assist with general maintenance and landscaping projects on an as-needed basis.

Perform preventative maintenance work.

Review and complete assigned work orders in a timely manner.

Assist in maintaining campus appearance that is clean orderly and welcoming.

Possess knowledge of the tools equipment and materials common to the carpentry electrical plumbing and machinist trades.

Complete general / routine installations repairs and maintenance across trades throughout a school environment.

Ensure the work is consistent with safety practices local state and federal codes regulations and specifications.

Make sure that their work site is clean and clear of any hazardous materials prior to the beginning of a project.

Ensure that all their materials supplies tools and equipment are procured in a time efficient manner for projects.

Clean up all equipment and surrounding workspace. .

Handle onsite building emergencies as directed and in a proactive manner including responding to all fire alarms and assisting with fire and lockdown drills.

Provide courteous and tactful information to students employees and visitors at all times and assists by giving calm and detailed information and directions.

Work on ladders or scaffolds as directed to reach high surfaces.

Assist with snow removal across campus walks and parking lots. Snow removal may be required prior to the start of the school and workday which requires work outside of regular work hours.

Assist with traffic control at the start and end of each school day.

Assist with the setup and breakdown for events.

Safely and effectively operate small machinery and vehicles (golf carts mowers trimmers turf aerators blowers and tractors).

Participate in scheduled department meetings.

Actively promote a workplace culture of mutual respect and cooperative relationships with staff.

Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

High School diploma GED or equivalent thereto.

Experience in mechanical electrical plumbing and painting preferred.

Must be reliable hardworking motivated and able to work independently and well with others.

Valid drivers license with driving record acceptable to FCS standards.

Requires frequent standing walking stooping kneeling crouching and working on ladders and scaffolding.

Requires the ability to lift move carry maneuver push or pull items weighing at least fifty pounds on a regular basis.
