Job Summary

We are seeking aGeneral Engineering Technician/Technologist 3to join our Power Innovation Commissioning Team. This role focuses on the automation systems that support the commissioning startup and operational handoff of critical energy infrastructure including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) substations and generation assets. The Engineering Technician/Technologist will be responsible for validating control system logic troubleshooting real-time hardware issues and ensuring that multi-million dollar assets transition safely from construction to live operational status under strict compliance guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate advanced technical expertise in automation systems to safely guide the commissioning startup and early-stage operations of energy infrastructure.
  • Apply specialized automation knowledge to coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities systemization and final punch-list closure.
  • Support the development formatting and physical execution of engineering commissioning plans operational procedures and automation test protocols.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed technical readiness reviews commissioning briefings and post-event operational summaries directly to project leadership.
  • Maintain an uncompromised working knowledge of regulatory industry standards specifically tracking NFPA 70E IEEE and NERC requirements where applicable.
  • Interpret project drawings to anticipate integration risks system performance gaps and network latency issues providing rapid deployment solutions.
  • Partner with internal Engineering Construction Operations and OEM field technicians to ensure complete design compliance and coordinate operator knowledge transfers.
  • Serve as the technical custodian for commissioning automation standards validating control system configurations and verifying startup/shutdown logic.
  • Oversee precise alarm management mapping SCADA system integration and the compilation of verified project turnover documentation packages.
  • Support cybersecurity protocols control system patching loops and hardware lifecycle refresh activities during the critical operational transition phase.
  • Provide real-time hands-on field troubleshooting for complex PLC DCS and HMI anomalies during high-risk energization and initial startup sequences.
  • Utilize enterprise automation platforms to manage system configuration logging software backups version control and compliance audits.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent combined with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressive hands-on experience in power generation commissioning or industrial automation.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering Engineering Technology or a highly related technical field of study. (Preferred)
  • Deep functional understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Distributed Control Systems (DCS) SCADA systems and HMI interfaces.
  • Solid operational understanding of industrial communication protocols including Modbus DNP3 and IEC 61850.
  • Documented experience managing commissioning workflows including system turnover packages drawing redline validations and material tracking.
  • Direct experience leveraging software like Rockwell Automation AssetCentre or immediate equivalents for industrial asset tracking. (Preferred)
