Salary/Hourly Rate:

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Performs tasks associated with mail processing and distribution.
  • Sorts and collates incoming mail for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail.
  • Places mail in proper buckets/tubs for dissemination.
  • Receives outgoing mail and applies correct postage.
  • Maintains postage records and updates filing inventory mailing and database systems.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform x-ray scan using an x-ray machine to scan all mail and packages for security of customers if required by contract. If required at site pull bags to be sent at the end of the day.
  • Follow HAZMAT procedures for handling potentially hazardous mail.
  • Process unidentifiable mail by opening and reading mail so appropriate distribution can be completed.
  • Process machinable mail (folding inserting sealing and opening) as needed.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education Experience and Certification(s)

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Experience in operating various mailroom machines required.
  • One-year experience in work related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a mail center preferred
  • Knowledge of US Postal regulations in the process of dealing with incoming outgoing certified registered insured and express mail preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform routine tasks on special class mail as well as routine and repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to stand reach and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to make minor decisions regarding mail issues/questions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Good reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement volume and distance.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software and accountable mail tracking system. Basic typing skills.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop and kneel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
