Job Summary

Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a General Accountant for the Financial Services Department. Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager this position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of cash activity general ledger transactions and related reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and applicable state regulations.

This position oversees bank reconciliations monitors SCEIS activity processes journal vouchers and supports capital asset accounting within Banner Finance. The General Accountant serves as a primary point of contact for internal and external financial inquiries and supports fiscal year-end close and audit preparation activities. This role works collaboratively with other accounting staff to ensure continuity of operations and cross-coverage of essential functions.

  • Manage accounting and financial tasks for institutional grants from award set up through closeout. Establish grant funds and indexes coordinate with the Budget Office and prepare invoices in accordance with billing requirements. Review grant contracts and coordinate required approvals.
  • Leads preparation of financial reporting in support of annual financial statements and audit requirements. Coordinates and prepares reconciliations documentation and year-end journal entries to ensure accuracy of reported balances.
  • Responsible for grant-related financial reports and serves as the point of contact for grant accounting and audits and the liaison with the with the Office of Research and Grants TCF and principal investigators.
  • Maintain and reconcile investment and endowment activity within Banner Finance.
  • Create audit schedules and year-end reports in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Prepare and process state scholarship invoices and reconcile receivables and monitor outstanding balances.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field.
  • Must have at least (2)two years accounting experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accounting principles and GASB accounting standards.
  • Ability to appropriately analyze interpret and apply business policies and procedures.
  • Ability to stay organized and maintain detailed documentation of all work performed. Ability to perform a detailed self-review of work performed.
  • Ability to perform work with accuracy efficiency and timeliness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with a high degree of proficiency in Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree may be substituted for related work experience
  • Ellucian systems preferred.
