Job Summary

Position Summary

The Score Table Staff is a vital member of the collegiate athletics game-day operations team responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely management of scoring and timekeeping functions during athletic competitions. This position serves as a key liaison between game officials coaching staff and event operations personnel contributing to a professional and well-regulated competition environment.

The role requires strong attention to detail a solid understanding of game rules and timing procedures and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced high-stakes environment.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the scoreboard game clock shot clock and other timing/scoring systems accurately throughout the contest.
  • Track game statistics fouls timeouts substitutions and other relevant information as required by the sport.
  • Collaborate with official scorekeepers and statisticians to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Maintain clear professional communication with referees coaches and event staff to relay timekeeping scoring and rule-related information.
  • Verify final scores stats and records before submission or announcement.
  • Stay up to date on NCAA PacWest Conference and sport-specific timing and scoring rules.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; current college enrollment preferred.
  • Prior experience working in athletics scorekeeping or event operations (can include volunteer or student roles).
  • Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations relevant to the sport(s) covered.
  • Familiarity with game-day equipment such as scoreboards shot clocks and timing systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to remain focused and professional during fast-paced and high-stakes events.
  • Punctuality and reliability for all assigned shifts.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating a score table at the high school club or collegiate level.
  • Working knowledge of multiple sports (e.g. basketball volleyball soccer etc.).
  • Experience with official stat-keeping software or timing systems (e.g. Daktronics StatCrew).
  • Availability of working evenings weekends and holidays as required by the athletics schedule.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and maintain focus throughout games.
  • Willingness to undergo training and attend regular staff meetings or refresher sessions.


Environmental Conditions:

  • Score Table Staff may be assigned to both indoor and outdoor venues depending on the sport (e.g. basketball in a gymnasium soccer on an outdoor field).
  • Events can be loud due to fans PA systems whistles and music. Staff must be able to concentrate and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
  • May be exposed to bright arena lights flashing scoreboards or low lighting depending on the venue and time of day.
  • Staff are required to remain seated and attentive at the score table for the entire duration of games including overtime or extended delays.
  • Must be able to perform duties accurately and quickly during fast-moving gameplay and in situations where decisions are time-sensitive.
  • While most indoor venues are climate-controlled outdoor events may expose staff to varying weather conditions such as heat cold or rain.
  • Score Table Staff are in full view of spectators coaches players and officials. Professional appearance and demeanor are always expected.


Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged Periods of Sitting: Must be able to remain seated at the score table for the entire duration of athletic contests which may range from 1 to 4 hours including potential overtime and delays.
  • Requires the use of hands and fingers to operate electronic scoreboards game clocks and other controls with precision and speed.
  • Must maintain keen attention to visual and auditory cues throughout the game (e.g. official signals game play whistles and announcements) to ensure accurate scorekeeping and timing.
  • May be required to lift and transport score table equipment signage or other materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • High levels of concentration situational awareness and decision-making under pressure are essential particularly in fast-paced or high-stakes game situations.

University Information

The pay for this position begins at $25.00 per hour and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications experience and internal equity.
