Position Overview
The G. Baley Price Fellowship allows one undergraduate or graduate student to engage in hands-on work organizing describing and preserving the Kenneth Spencer Research Librarys (KSRL) historical materials in order to make them accessible to KU faculty staff and students and to the wider public. This position is specifically for a student interested in pursuing a career in archives and special collections or a career involving intensive archival research. This position will focus on inventorying and describing records within the Kansas Collection. This position will create and update metadata for material in support of the Spencer Research Librarys collection management effort to provide broader public access to unique historical collections highlighting the history of Kansas. This may include researching the history of Kansas as well as its cultural movements and historical figures. Additional opportunities may include writing a blog post for the KSRL blog meeting one-on-one with faculty and professional staff to learn more about different kinds of work and career paths in the archives and special collections field and other possibilities dependent upon the students talents and interests. This fellowship serves for one year in the KSRL processing department with the option of renewing while a student at KU.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an interest in archival research and/or an archives and special collections career and will preferably be familiar with organizations and offices of the University of Kansas. This position requires the availability to work between 9-20 hours per week during the hours of 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday - Friday in shifts of at least 2 hours at a time.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
- Survey and rehouse descriptions for processed materials within the Kansas Collection in preparation for transfer to the Library Annex.
- Work on special projects as assigned by supervisor in support of the KSRL Manuscripts Processing Team.
- Engage inprofessional development within the library archives and other information science fields as shaped by the candidates professional interest.
