Job Summary

Position Overview

The Custodian supports Wolfes Neck Centers mission by ensuring that all visitor facilities offices classrooms campground facilities and common areas are clean safe and well-maintained. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming and professional environment for staff guests and program participants.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work pays attention to detail and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a small collaborative facilities team in an active agricultural hospitality and educational setting.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Upkeep & Cleaning

  • Perform daily cleaning of restrooms offices classrooms event spaces and common areas.
  • Sweep mop vacuum dust and sanitize surfaces in accordance with safety and health standards.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and transport waste to designated areas.
  • Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Maintain outdoor visitor areas (porches entrances walkways) by sweeping and clearing debris.
  • Assist in light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs changing filters and minor repairs.
  • Provide support to the Campground Housekeeping team who are responsible for campsite and cabin turn-over as well as the cleaning of campground outhouses and bathhouse facilities.
  • Support the event staff with setup and breakdown of events meetings and educational programs as assigned.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all organizational safety protocols and cleaning procedures.
  • Properly handle and store cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Report safety hazards needed repairs or maintenance concerns promptly to the Facilities Manager.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with Event Program Education and Visitor Experience teams to ensure shared spaces meet standards for cleanliness and presentation.
  • Provide courteous assistance to visitors staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Participate in cleaning and special projects including deep cleaning and maintenance support.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Prior custodial janitorial or facilities maintenance experience.

Skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail reliability and pride in maintaining clean and organized spaces.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation

Preferred

  • Experience working on a farm camp school or hospitality environment.
  • Familiarity with green cleaning methods and environmentally friendly products.

Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a farm campground and educational setting. The Custodian may be exposed to varying weather conditions animals and typical farm activities. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required when appropriate.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending reaching and standing for extended periods.

Compensation:

The Custodian is a fulltime with hours ranging between 32-40 hours per week based at Wolfes Neck Center in Freeport ME from. Compensation commensurate with experience: $18 -22 per hour.
