Job Summary
TheForestry Tech Crew Memberworks as a skilled member of a forestry tech crew engaged in fuels management including hand piling and other brush disposal techniques. The primary duty of the crew is to complete hazardous fuels reduction is a full time non-exempt positionreporting to a Lead Forestry Technician in the Prevention Division of the Fire Department.

Industry competitive compensation hourly rate of $20.00 plus FULL BENEFITS. Benefits include medical coverage with FSA option dental vision paid time off and retirement contribution.

- Perform assignments using a variety of hand and power tools including chainsaws.
- Cut brush and fell small trees to create shaded fuel breaks using various hand tools such as axe shovel and Pulaski Mcleod. May also use power tools including chainsaw brush cutter or leaf blower.
- Clean recondition and store tools and equipment.
- Must display good judgment and safe work practices during shift lengths of up to ten (10) hours per workday.
- Participate in safety training in the techniques practices and methods of safe efficient operation and use of vehicles tools and equipment.
- Participate in safety sessions and critiques.
- Ensure own and others welfare and safety in all aspects of the assignments.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.
- Work effectively and efficiently with tools and equipment issued by the District.
- Drive and operate District vehicles and equipment.
- Other projects as assigned.
Required:
- Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
- Graduation from high school or successful certification of equivalency (GED).
- Possession a valid Class C drivers license prior to hire and active during the course of employment.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in English.
- Read comprehend and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form memos and documents including policies and procedures operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in various situations.
- Display good judgment and safe work practices during long shifts.
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Must agree to undergo a criminal background check.
- Must agree to a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Working knowledge of principles and practices of fuels reduction.
- Forestry work experience either in fuel mitigation or land management.
- Ability to read maps.
