Job Summary

The Food Preparation and Service Worker assists in the preparation cooking and serving of food in a state facility. This entry-level position is responsible for preparing ingredients serving meals and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas. The role supports kitchen staff in ensuring that meals are prepared safely and served efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist with food preparation including washing peeling chopping and measuring food safety protocols to ensure that all food is prepared and stored at the correct with cooking tasks such as boiling frying or baking under the supervision of kitchen meals to residents employees or clients ensuring that portions are appropriate and food is served at the correct kitchen equipment countertops and utensils after use maintaining a sanitary work serving areas and ensure that food is replenished as with maintaining food storage areas ensuring that food items are properly stored and labeled.

Knowledge and Skills

Basic knowledge of food safety practices and kitchen to follow instructions and assist with food preparation to work efficiently and as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen communication skills for following directions and coordinating with kitchen staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Exposure to kitchen or cooking experience.

Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications including years of experience and service does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management taking into consideration the employees demonstrated skills competencies performance workload responsibilities and organizational needs.
