This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit which develops Blue Origins Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origins mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit which develops Blue Origins Blue Moon lander product lines. As a Valve Responsible Engineer you will own components across their complete life cycle from requirements definition and conceptual design through detailed design development testing verification and flight operations. You will be part of a team of designing the next generation of valves for crewed lunar vehicles to enable a sustained human presence on the Moon.
- Own valve designs end-to-end: requirements interfaces detailed design drawing release test support and anomaly resolution
- Perform first-order structural thermal and flow analyses to verify designs; coordinate with the analysis team for higher-fidelity modeling (FEA CFD)
- Size components select materials and evaluate performance under pressure vibration temperature and mechanical loads
- Create Drawings and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to produce manufacturable inspectable hardware
- Model valves fittings actuators and interfaces in Creo within the flight vehicle assembly
- Coordinate with suppliers procurement and manufacturing to source fabricate and deliver flight hardware
- Support development and qualification testing; analyze test data and iterate designs
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in technical peer reviews
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or a related field
- 4 years of experience in valve or mechanical/fluids component design
- Working knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components (valves regulators check valves relief valves actuators) for cryogenic and propellant service
- Proficiency with Creo (or equivalent parametric CAD) for part and assembly modeling
- Experience applying GD&T to component drawings
- Familiarity with design analysis tools such as ANSYS or Thermal Desktop
- Ability to define test requirements support test execution and conduct data analysis
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or a related field
- Experience with FEA or CFD software (ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with cryogenic or high-pressure fluid system hardware
