Job Title: Firewall SME

Location: Remote

Duration: 18 Months

Pay Rate Range: $75 to $80

Position Overview

Client will provide firewall engineering support to a large enterprise customer focused on network security refresh and remediation initiatives. This role serves as a senior level firewall subject matter expert providing operational guidance design oversight and technical consultation across next generation firewall platforms. The position is consultative in nature with limited direct configuration work and a strong emphasis on mentoring documentation and automation strategy.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior level subject matter expertise for Palo Alto Networks and Cisco firewall platforms
• Support firewall configuration reviews rule updates cleanup and policy optimization
• Assist with firewall refresh initiatives tied to site or network upgrades
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues related to firewall policy and routing changes
• Guide implementation sequencing and stabilization activities during scheduled change windows
• Act as escalation support for vendor technical assistance center cases including incident creation and resolution support
• Provide oversight and guidance for firewall migrations including limited hands-on collaboration with engineering teams
• Support next generation firewall platforms including Palo Alto 5400 series and Cisco next generation firewalls
• Assist with migration from end-of-life firewall platforms to modern architectures
• Provide expertise in external dynamic lists authentication portals global gateways and advanced routing
• Contribute to automation initiatives using application programming interfaces across Palo Alto and Cisco platforms
• Develop technical documentation standards and firewall best practices
• Work closely with customer network security stakeholders and broader network engineering teams
• Support flexible schedules including weekends and holidays during install and update windows as required

Qualifications

• Senior level firewall engineering experience in enterprise environments
• Strong expertise with Palo Alto Networks and Cisco firewall technologies
• Demonstrated experience supporting next generation firewall platforms
• Experience supporting firewall migrations and refresh initiatives
• Ability to act as a peer level technical advisor to internal engineering teams
• Experience opening and managing vendor technical assistance center cases
• Working knowledge of firewall automation and application programming interface-based workflows
• Experience creating technical documentation and operational best practices
• Strong communication and consultative skills
• Ability to work onsite when required with flexibility for remote work if approved
