Job Summary

The Fire & Rescue Technician - EMS & Fire Rescue performs emergency response duties including firefighting rescue operations emergency medical services (EMS) fire prevention and public education. The role responds to fire and rescue incidents provides emergency medical care operates and maintains firefighting and rescue equipment conducts inspections assists with fire investigations participates in training and supports community safety while following departmental policies and emergency response procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to fire rescue and emergency medical service (EMS) calls.
  • Perform fire suppression rescue and salvage operations.
  • Provide basic life support (BLS) and support advanced life support (ALS) operations.
  • Operate drive and maintain fire rescue and EMS apparatus and equipment.
  • Conduct fire prevention inspections and related safety activities.
  • Assist with fire investigation activities.
  • Provide immediate emergency care to injured or ill individuals.
  • Conduct and participate in departmental training sessions.
  • Perform routine clerical and administrative duties.
  • Deliver public fire safety and emergency preparedness education programs.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to meet all Fire and Rescue Department training physical and certification requirements.
  • Eligibility to obtain Virginia EMT-I or EMT-P certification (for EMS assignments).
  • Knowledge of firefighting principles emergency medical services fire prevention hydraulics and incident command.
  • Ability to operate firefighting and EMS equipment safely.
  • Strong communication decision-making teamwork and public interaction skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively under hazardous and emergency conditions.
